Reception of Letter of Credence from the Ambassador of Ghana

Click to enlargeThe President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Janez Drnovšek, today received the Letter of Credence from the Ambassador of the Republic of Ghana, Mr Charles Agyei-Amoama, who shall cover Slovenia from Rome.

The ambassador, Mr Charles Agyei-Amoama, told the President, Dr Janez Drnovšek, that the situation in Ghana is positive, that democracy, rule of law and good state administration are being strengthened. Economy and infrastructure are being improved and upgraded. The ambassador added that the situation, in view of the fact that the region has been was affected by war, is being stabilised, and that they follow the example of the European Union as regards integration.

In the discussion with the President Dr Drnovšek the Ambassador, Mr Agyei-Amoama, stressed the fact that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Ghana, which was the first sub-Saharan African country to become independent (6 March 1957). The ceremony shall be attended by many heads of state and government.

Furthermore, the Ambassador told the President Dr Drnovšek that Ghana should be honoured by his visit.

President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Janez Drnovšek expressed his satisfaction with the fact that the situation in Ghana is positive. He said that Africa suffers too much poverty, violence and terror and that the developed world should therefore do more to help Africa. European Union has a special responsibility in this process. The present situation is not acceptable. The West and the competent institutions should do more.

Upon closing the discussion the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Janez Drnovšek, expressed his expectations that Slovenia and Ghana should develop and strengthen their cooperation, become more familiar with one another and make a common effort for a better future. He added a request for the Ambassador to greet his president on his behalf.
