President Dr Drnovšek attends 25th anniversary of Art of Living
Bangalore, India, 02/17/2006 | press release, statement
Slovenian President Dr. Janez Drnovšek took part today in the celebrations marking the 25th anniversary of the international non-governmental organisation Art of Living, a foundation established by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.
The Slovenian President, who was the first guest of honour to address those present, opened by stating that all people are connected to each other, and that we must strive together for a better world. “There is still too much violence and poverty in the world. Peace must be ensured everywhere, and in India you have a great tradition in this. Mahatma Gandhi said that things can be changed by peaceful means. And if it worked for him, we too can change the world today in a peaceful way and without violence. This is something that can be attained by all of us together who think in the same way and who feel with positive energy.
“We all know that happiness is not brought by riches and money, but by helping others, since in this way we also help ourselves. In this way all people could live in peace with themselves and with others.”
The Slovenian President congratulated the members of the Art of Living foundation and its founder, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, for everything they had done in 25 years. “You have done a great deal. I hope you will continue – but not alone. We can do this together,” said President Drnovšek in closing.
The celebration, which took place at the local airport of Jakkur, was attended by more than two million people from over 145 countries, and around 40 million households were able to follow it in a live broadcast. The events could also be followed on the web.
