Statement of the President of the Republic of Slovenia in connection with consultations with the leaders of parliamentary groups and the proposed candidate for the post of governor of the Bank of Slovenia

Ljubljana, 02/12/2007  |  press release, statement

Statement of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Janez Drnovšek, in connection with consultations with the leaders of parliamentary groups and the proposed candidate for the post of governor of the Bank of Slovenia:

“I will meet those leaders of parliamentary groups who show particular interest in this issue. However, as usual, Mrs Magdalena Tovornik will lead the discussions. My eventual discussions will be held without photo sessions or a public audience.

"In the past, when I had such discussions with leaders of parliamentary groups, at the end it was all reduced to a mere ritual of meetings held for the public, with no substantial effect. Such discussions did not provide support for the National Assembly.

"Certainly I cannot think of any other candidate besides Mr Andrej Rant. If he is not elected, there will be an institutional crisis in the state, since the state will remain without a governor of the Bank of Slovenia until further action is taken. However, I shall not be forced to propose a candidate whom I consider inappropriate.”
