The president of the Republic receives a farewell visit from the US ambassador

The President of the Republic, Dr Janez Drnovšek, today received the US ambassador, Mr Johnny Young, who came to make his farewells.

Ambassador Young started by saying that he had begun his mission in Slovenia when Dr Drnovšek was still prime minister and emphasised that since then Slovenia has made enormous progress and strengthened itself as an important member of the international community. The United States of America sees Slovenia as a reliable ally and partner in regional issues and issues regarding peace and stability in the world. The US ambassador added that he leaves Slovenia after three years with optimism as regards its further development.

President Drnovšek stressed that Slovenia has always had good relations with the USA, which it sees as a strategic partner and ally. The good relations that are developing in all spheres are partly due to the efforts of Ambassador Young, the president concluded.
