Dr Drnovšek received the letter of credence of Icelandic Ambassador
Ljubljana, 03/14/2006 | press release

The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Janez Drnovšek, today received the letter of credence of Icelandic Ambassador Mr Kristinn F. Arnason.
During his talk with the new ambassador, Dr Drnovšek said that relations between Slovenia and Iceland were excellent and that close contact between the leaders of both countries went back to the very beginning of Slovenia’s independence. Slovenia and Iceland, as a rule, hold the same or very similar views in the UN and other international organisations. The Ambassador was particularly interested in Dr Drnovšek’s international activities and in his endeavours to promote peaceful solutions for the conflict in Darfur, the Middle East and Kosovo. In Dr Drnovšek’s words, the underlying reason for his activities is his desire to accelerate the solution to the problems that the countries involved and the international community have been tackling for a long time, with negotiations so far failing to lead to an effective and rapid solution.
At the end of their talk, Dr Janez Drnovšek wished the Ambassador of Iceland a pleasant stay in Slovenia and every success in strengthening relations between the two countries.
