Letters of Credence presented by the Ambassador of Panama

The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Janez Drnovšek, today received the new Ambassador of Panama, Isabel Damian Karekides, who presented to him her letters of credence.
The Ambassador Isabel Damian Karekides acquainted the President of the Republic Dr Drnovšek with the encouraging development of Panama in the past few years. Her country expects special development incentives from the complex project of enlargement of the Panama Canal, which is the linchpin of the nation's economic potential. Although small in terms of geographical area and population, Panama counts on consolidating its position as the hub of Central American economic and social trends once the modernization of the Canal has been completed. Owing to its links with Europe, this country expects Slovenia to help stimulate cooperation in all areas during its EU presidency.

The President of the Republic of Slovenia Dr Drnovšek expressed our country's interest in developing bilateral relations and wished Panama every success in the implementation of its projects.
The Ambassador Isabel Damian Karekides expressed her desire that the President of the Republic Dr Drnovšek should visit Panama.
