The President had talks on the questions of Palestine and Libya and other current international topics with his discussion partners. With the UN Secretary-General, they also discussed the problems of prevention and control of non-communicable diseases, which is the subject of this year's high-level event at the UN General Assembly session. President Türk emphasized that the transfer of the debate on non-communicable diseases from expert and medical circles to the global political level, enabling more effective prevention, is very important. He also talked with the President of the UN General Assembly about preparations for the Rio+20 Summit to be held next year in Brazil. They agreed that the meeting is an opportunity for more effective and harmonised world politics on environmental protection.

The incentive of the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to change the status of Palestine can contribute to the revival of the peace process which, according to the estimate of President Türk, shall not be an easy task.

As regards Libya, he remembered that the United Nations recognized the Libyan National Transitional Council as a representative of Libya in the UN, which was encouragement for strengthening its legitimacy in Libya itself. In the words of the President, the question now remains on how to connect international participants for aid which will concern very sensitive issues and require caution, in order to keep the key decisions in the hands of the representatives of Libya themselves which should be a demanding diplomatic and political operation.
