President on the arrest of the Hague accused, Ratko Mladić

Ljubljana, 26.5.2011  |  press release

President Dr Danilo Türk expressed satisfaction over the fact that Serbian security forces have arrested the Hague’s most wanted accused, Ratko Mladić, and that the procedure for his extradition to the court in the Hague is already underway.

The President highlighted on this occasion that violence towards people without protection and the ability of self-defence is a serious evil and major crime. He stressed that all criminals must answer for their crimes, since this is the only way to achieve justice and maintain human dignity and permanent peace. He also warned that there are still too many who have so far escaped justice.

President Türk said that he believed that with this act, Serbia had overcome one of the most important obstacles in the process of moving closer to the European Union. He again expressed Slovenia’s willingness, within the limits of its resources, to help Serbia in the process of moving towards accession to the EU.
