The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, appointed as a Protector of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts

The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, today participated at the Festive Plenary Session of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (EASA), where he was formally inaugurated as a Protector of this Academy. This title was awarded to the President of the Republic of Slovenia at today’s Festive Plenary Session of the Academy in Salzburg. The European Academy of Sciences and Arts is a renowned European institution that has more than 1,550 distinguished, internationally renowned scientists from Europe and around the world, including twenty-nine Nobel prize winners.

In his speech of the acceptance, the President of the Republic, Borut Pahor, first thanked the President, Felix Unger, and the Senate of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts for selecting him as a Protector of the Academy. He said that he accepted this inauguration with pleasure, respect and full responsibility, and also promised to protect the Academy within the scope of his authority. The President of the Republic emphasised that by promoting knowledge, cooperation and tolerance across all borders, the Academy is fulfilling its main motto Sciencia Omnibus Serviat (science should serve all). The President wished all members and participants much success in their future work and the fulfilment of their noble mission. Vivat, crescat, floreat Academia Scientiarum et Artium Europaea.

The President of the Republic of Croatia, Ivo Josipović, was also inaugurated as a Protector of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. Along with the festivities in Salzburg, the first bilateral meeting of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, and the President of the Republic of Croatia, Ivo Josipović, will be held in the afternoon and both will make public statements.

Mr President, Ladies and Gentlemen,

I was honoured to receive your invitation to join the distinguished list of Protectors of the European Academy of Science and Arts. Let me express my gratitude to the President Prof. Felix Unger and the Senate of the Academy. I am immensely grateful for the honour, which I accept with respect and responsibility.

I promise to nourish and protect the uniqueness of the Academy and its ethical and scientific values. It is an enormous responsibility to be chosen as a Protector of such a distinguished European institution, which brings together approximately 1,500 scientists and artists from Europe and the world, among whom are 29 Nobel Prize winners. I am especially proud of the 49 scientists and artists from Slovenia who have become members of the Academy.

In promoting of knowledge, cooperation and tolerance across disciplinary and national borders, European Academy of Science and Arts is fulfulling their main motto 'Science Omnibus Serviat'.

It is an absolute pleasure to be part of your noble mission. I am convinced that with widening scientific information, promoting transnational dialogue and implementing significant projects on a global scale, we can make the world a better place for all.
