President Pahor and Senator McCain emphasise the commitment to continued excellent cooperation between our countries

Ljubljana, 8. 4. 2017 | press release

Responding to an invitation extended by the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, Senator McCain, one of the most influential and eminent American politicians and a former US presidential candidate, visited Slovenia today.

Following an official reception in Brdo pri Kranju, President Pahor and Senator McCain continued their meeting by speaking in private. Plenary discussions between the delegations of the Republic of Slovenia and the United States of America followed. Both politicians gave brief statements for the public and then visited the Peter Petrič Military Post in Kranj, where they met the members of the Slovenian Armed Forces who will be sent on a NATO mission to Latvia.

President Pahor and Senator McCain then participated in a traditional ceremony commemorating the “Day of Slovenian-US Friendship and Alliance” in Andraž nad Polzelo and spoke with those in attendance. The ceremony in Andraž and the visit of Senator McCain took place on the occasion of celebrating the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Slovenia and the United States of America. The President and the Senator laid wreaths next to a memorial plaque marking the anniversary of the crash of an American B-17 bomber and remembering its eight crew members who lost their lives.
