President Pahor hosts a formal signing of the Ljubljana Initiative at the Presidential Palace

As the sponsor of the discussion on the new European Constitution, the Initiative was first signed by the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor. The other signatories included Dr Peter Jambrek, Dr Ernest Petrič, Dr Dimitrij Rupel, Dr Matej Avbelj, Dr Tine Hribar and academic Niko Grafenauer.

The signatories briefly presented the Ljubljana Initiative in their addresses.

The Ljubljana Initiative is opening the discussion on the future of Europe by proposing the New Draft Treaty for the Constitution of the European Union. The document is the result of the international conference, “The new constitutional process for the European Union,” which was held in Ljubljana in April 2016, and where Slovenian and foreign guests discussed the multi-layered crisis of the EU and its constitutional solutions. The President of the Republic attended the conference as the main guest and addressed the participants.

President Pahor supported the initiative for the discussion of the Constitution of the European Union and saw it as a new chapter in the future of the European Union.
