Slovenian-American Friendship and Alliance Day
Andraž nad Polzelo, 13. 4. 2019 | press release, speech
Slovenian President Borut Pahor was the keynote speaker today at the annual celebration of Slovenian-American Friendship and Alliance Day. On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the crash of an American B-17 bomber at this site, the President laid a wreath on the memorial plaque commemorating the eight crew members who lost their lives in the crash.
The annual celebration of Slovenian-American Friendship and Alliance Day in Andraž nad Polzelo was also attended by American congressman Paul Gosar, who is visiting Slovenia at the invitation of the Slovenian President.
At a special ceremony at the President’s Office yesterday, the President awarded the American congressman the Golden Order of Merit for his services. Congressman Gosar, who is of Slovenian descent, and is considered one of the most active and effective members of congress, received the decoration for his contributions to and participation in strengthening relations between Slovenia and the United States of America, for strengthening Slovenian-American friendship and for fostering continued close relations between the two countries.
The congressman with Slovenian roots, similar to Senator Amy Klobuchar in the Senate, recently founded the House Friends of Slovenia Caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives, and will serve as the organisation’s co-chair.
