President Türk took note of the activities of the Multinational Centre of Excellence for Mountain Warfare, the operation of which was confirmed on 2 February 2011. The centre will be transformed into NATO’s Centre of Excellence for Mountain Warfare, with accreditation planned for 2015.

President Türk was first shown special mountain equipment at the multinational centre, while later, at the Pokljuka Training Centre, he was given a dynamic presentation of work of a military patrol in the mountains, encompassing presentation of an observation point in the mountains in winter, operations of a ski patrol and use of improvised stretchers to transport injured people.

In his statement to the press, President Türk said that the presentation had showed him the superior quality of the work of the Multinational Centre of Excellence for Mountain Warfare. He pointed out that the Republic of Slovenia has found its most important independent niche of military professional skills in the area of mountain warfare, and this makes a significant contribution to the armed forces of Slovenia's partners.

According to President Türk, the plan for transformation into a NATO centre of excellence is very well organised. He added that in the period to 2015, the Slovenian centre can develop into a successful and internationally recognised centre, comparable to NATO's existing centre of excellence in Norway, which is famous for its leading specialists in operations in extreme winter conditions.
