Meeting between the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk, and the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr Ban Ki-Moon

Klikni za povečavoIn the margins of the thematic debate “Addressing Climate Change: The United Nations and the World at Work”, held at the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York, the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk, met the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr Ban Ki-Moon. The President welcomed the Secretary-General’s decision to place climate change at the top of the agenda, emphasising that these are issues which should be addressed as priorities on a par with other international crises and observing that the range of partners engaged in combating climate change together should be extended.

The President and the Secretary-General also touched on the issue of the status of Kosovo; among other things, Dr Türk stressed the importance of ensuring peace and stability in the region.

The two of them also discussed preparations for the next session of the UN General Assembly and preparations for the midterm evaluation of progress towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals. Mr Ban Ki-Moon also informed Dr Türk regarding certain measures to restructure the United Nations Secretariat.
