Türk and Obama Discuss Development of Transatlantic Partnership
Istanbul, 7.4.2009 | press release
After the end of the first day’s session of the Forum of the UN Alliance of Civilizations, several heads of state and government and senior representatives of international organisations attending the Forum met with the President of the United States of America, Mr Barack Obama.
During the one-hour informal meeting, they exchanged views on the impact of the global financial and economic crisis, the results of the recent G20 Summit of the most developed and emerging countries in London and the tasks of international organisations in the new circumstances. They particularly focused on the importance of strengthening global dialogue, the renunciation of prejudice and xenophobia and the improvement of communication among diverse cultures and civilizations.
Slovenian President Danilo Türk and US President Barack Obama discussed in particular the development of the transatlantic partnership under conditions determined by the current global re-disposition of economic and political power and influence. The strengthening of this partnership and good relations with the Islamic world has been one of the reasons for Mr Obama's visit to Europe, which ends today.
