PRESIDENT CLINTON ON THE ENDEAVOURS FOR THE STABILISATION OF WESTERN BALKANS

Ljubljana, 19 October 1999

Slovenia has repeatedly proven that it is a valued partner in international efforts to stabilise, democratise and integrate Southeast Europe, writes US President Bill Clinton in a letter received today by the President of the Republic, Mr Milan Kucan.

In his letter, President Clinton thanks President Kucan for Slovenia's active role in making the Sarajevo Stability Pact Summit a success and for the role Slovenia has played in developing the further work of the Stability pact. "I believe that Slovenia has much to offer, given your long experience with the Western Balkans and your own success," President Clinton writes. He also expressed his thanks to Slovenia and to President Kucan personally for Slovenia's support to the democratic government of President Djukanovic and looks forward to working closely with Slovenia in the joint effort to enhance regional democratisation, prosperity and security.
