PRESIDENT KUCAN RECEIVES THE SPEAKER OF THE PARLIAMENTARY ASSEMBLY OF THE COUNCIL OF EUROPE

The President of the Republic of Slovenia received the Speaker of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Lord Russell-Johnston, for talks today. The Speaker informed the President of the talks he held with representatives of political parties in the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia. The guest was interested in the President's views on the current developments in Kosovo, Montenegro and Serbia, as well as in his assessment of the activities of Serbian opposition leaders. President Kucan explained the historical and other reasons behind the situation in the Balkans and signalled that it was urgently necessary for the international community to resolve the crisis in the longterm, thus stabilising the situation in the region.
