Ljubljana, 1.10.2012 | press release
The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk, discussed the current situation with the President of the European Court of Auditors, Vitor Manuel da Silvo Caldeiro, members of the CEAD (Coordination, Evaluation, Assurance and Development) Chamber Igors Ludboržs, Kersti Kaljulaid, Henrik Otbo and Milan Cvikl, and President of the Court of Audit of the Republic of Slovenia Igor Šoltes and Vice-Governor of the Bank of Slovenia Marko Bohinc. The participants in the meeting pointed out topical issues of the European Court of Auditors during the current financial crisis and newly created European institutions.
The discussion partners highlighted different aspects of these issues and underlined the significance of the maximum compliance and transparency of the system that is being created. The European Court of Auditors has important competences in relation to the existing institutions of the European Union, including the European Commission and the European Central Bank. It will be necessary to consider its role played within the banking union that is being created and in other connections, and, at the same time, to establish in what way its work should be presented to the European Parliament and consequently contribute to more transparency of the work of European institutions and enhancement of the legitimacy of the European Union.
