Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh to visit Slovenia

Ljubljana, 26.6.2008  |  press release

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, will pay their first official visit to Slovenia in autumn at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk. President Türk explained that he was pleased that The Queen had accepted the invitation to visit Slovenia, adding that this demonstrated that, by tradition, the Republic of Slovenia and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland maintain excellent and friendly relations.

Slovenia and the United Kingdom established diplomatic relations in 1992, which was followed by the opening of their respective embassies in both countries. Cooperation between the two countries is excellent at all levels, especially in the areas of climate change and energy policy, economic reform within the European Union, European Neighbourhood Policy and EU policy towards the Western Balkans. Despite occasional fluctuations, trade between the two countries has been on the increase since 1992. In 2007, Britain’s exports to Slovenia amounted to €300 million, with Slovenia’s exports to the United Kingdom totalling €470 million. The number of British tourists visiting Slovenia has also increased, during both the summer and winter holidays and especially in the Julian Alps.
