Slovenian President receives President of the Kosovo Assembly
Ljubljana, 17.4.2009 | press release

The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk, today received the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, Jakup Krasniqi, who is attending the international congress "Civil Society Organisations Making a Challenge to Ruling Authorities". Mr Türk and Mr Krasniqi especially focused on bilateral relations and the topical issues regarding national institution building, where Kosovo is being assisted by Slovenia. Kosovo is encountering major problems in organising its judicial system, which is considered the hardest nut to be cracked in its institutional transformation. The President of the Kosovo Assembly described in detail the positive experience of his country's co-operation with the Council of Europe. In doing so, he pointed out the endeavours of the Kosovo authorities to encourage the integration of the Serbian minority into political life. President Türk emphasised that a specific model of a relationship towards the minority could be developed in Kosovo; this could also be of interest to other countries. In addressing bilateral economic co-operation, Mr Türk and Mr Krasniqi agreed that there are no obstacles to its further enhancement.
