| President of the Republic of Slovenia, Danilo Türk, and his wife, Barbara Miklič Türk, visited the International Music Workshop and Jazzinty Festival. They attended the course of pedagogical work at the International Music Workshop and the 'Jazzon Live' concluding concert of the Jazzinty Festival, where the president presented the award for the best performance of a jazz composition for 2012.
President Türk and his wife first visited the Marjan Kozina Music School in Novo Mesto, where they attended a course of the pedagogical work at the Jazzinty workshop and listened to young musicians during their rehearsals. Later in the day, members of the LokalPatriot Institute and the Goga Library outlined for them their activities. In the Simulaker Gallery, they visited the exhibition organised within the Festival of Documentary Photography, while the management of the Situla Hostel informed them about the infrastructure and the contents intended for youth activities and intergenerational cooperation.
At the press conference, President Türk pointed out that all the institutes and organisations that he and his wife had visited in Novo Mesto radiate energy and ambition. In terms of the economy, Novo Mesto and its surroundings belong to Slovenia's most dynamic regions. It is certainly most welcome that the town is also rapidly developing in terms of culture. The president said that he was pleased to have the opportunity to see the events and programmes that are connected with the European Capital of Culture. He went on to emphasise that culture is at the core of development; it creates social cohesion and provides an opportunity for investments and integration into European projects. He concluded by saying that at this stage of our development, we should be well aware of this. |
