President of the Republic comments on the future of Europe as a global player

Klikni za povečavoThe President of the Republic, Dr Danilo Türk, today attended the 11th international WDR Europa Forum 2008 held in Ljubljana this year. In his welcome address he pointed out that the fundamental challenge of Europe is how to constitute itself as a global player in the globalised world of today. This morning, the President of the Republic of Slovenia also received the President of the European Parliament, Mr Hans-Gert Pöttering, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey, Mr Ali Babacan, who also both attended the international Forum.
Klikni za povečavoThe President, Dr Danilo Türk, and the President of the European Parliament, Mr Hans-Gert Pöttering, have already met on three other occasions since the end of 2007. They discussed the priorities of the European Union, in particular, the ratification process of the Lisbon Treaty, the international dialogue and the contribution of the European Parliament to the discussions on Mediterranean cooperation.
Klikni za povečavoThe President of the Republic, Dr Danilo Türk, today also received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey, Mr Ali Babacan. They talked about the issues of the Turkey’s candidature for membership in the European Union. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey thanked Slovenia for the support in the endeavours that was also expressed by the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk, in his speech in the European Parliament and on several other occasions, including at the recent visit of Troika in Turkey.
