Slovenian President Danilo Türk receives Speaker of the Czech Chamber of Deputies

The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk, today received the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, Mr Miloslav Vlček. Their talks centred on the issues at the forefront of the Czech EU Presidency concerns. Speaker Vlček informed President Türk of the plans to ratify the Lisbon Treaty in the Czech Parliament.

During their talks, Mr Vlček outlined the initiative for greater commitment on the part of European parliaments in order to achieve a lasting ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. In this regard, Dr Türk stressed that European democratic forces should help in the reconciliation process within the Palestinian nation. They also discussed economic problems brought about by the current crisis, agreeing that the European Union plays an important role in seeking a joint response of all Member States to the challenges presented by the crisis.
