At the President’s meeting with the Secretary-General of the Council of Europe, Mr Terry Davis, both parties emphasised the possibilities for closer cooperation between the Council of Europe and the European Union and the opportunities for additional Council of Europe activities in certain crises areas, particularly in south-eastern Europe.

With the former President of the Republic of Ireland and former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mrs Mary Robinson, President Türk spoke about issues of human rights, above all in Africa and Asia. They discussed the possibility of President Türk raising the subject of European and global values on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Declaration of Human Rights in his address to the Members of the European Parliament, scheduled for one of the EP sessions in spring this year.
