Slovenian and Polish Presidents on International Topics
Jurata, 13.9.2009 | press release

On the second day of his visit to Poland, where he attended the Visegrad Group Presidential Summit as a guest of honour, the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk, also met with his host Lech Kaczyński, President of the Republic of Poland. In an in-depth informal exchange of opinions at the summer residence of the Polish President in Jurata on the Baltic coast, Dr Türk and Mr Kaczyński spoke particularly about European and international topics.
The Polish President presented his perspective to his Slovenian counterpart on topical issues in Central Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia. The two dignitaries also touched upon issues related to the Balkans and the current UN agenda, particularly UN reform and crisis areas, including Afghanistan. According to President Türk, such informal exchanges of opinion are very useful, as they facilitate better understanding of the problems faced by the international community and a more effective quest for answers required by the world.

The two presidents also exchanged ideas concerning the consultation methods required by the Visegrad Group and other countries cooperating with the Group. The new EU Member States have a strong interest in a more precise definition of their priorities and the enhancement of their position in decision-making processes within the EU, as well as in making their voices heard better in the UN and other international organisations.
