President of the Republic of Slovenia on an official visit to Montenegro

Klikni za povečavoThe President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk, and his wife Barbara Miklič Türk were first received by the President of the Republic of Montenegro, Filip Vujanović, and his wife Svetlana Vujanović at the airport in Podgorica. During his first official visit to Montenegro, President Türk met the President of the National Assembly of Montenegro, Ranko Krivokapić, and subsequently the Prime Minister of the Republic of Montenegro, Milo Djukanović.
Klikni za povečavoIn the talks held with Mr Krivokapić and Mr Djukanović, President Türk highlighted the excellent relations between the two countries. Among the main topics of discussion were progress in the economic area and the increase in investments between the countries. Good and increasing trade has been developing between Slovenia and Montenegro, in which Slovenia recorded a significant surplus. The countries wish to enhance the existing good cooperation, in particular in the area of banking, insurance, infrastructure and tourism.
Klikni za povečavoThe Prime Minister of the Republic of Montenegro, Milo Djukanović, expressed his interest in Slovenian experience and the participation of Slovenian companies in the development of mountain tourism in Montenegro, especially in the planned development of tourism potentials in the Plav, Bielašnica and Durmitor regions. The Slovenian President assured the Prime Minister and the President of the National Assembly of Slovenia's support in Montenegro's joining Euro-Atlantic alliances and complimented them on their pursuit of peace and stability in the region. President Türk took serious note of the analysis of Montenegro's views on Kosovo.
Klikni za povečavoThe Slovenian President was then again received by the President of Montenegro, Filip Vujanović. At the press conference held by both presidents followed by a meeting with a tête-à-tête discussion between the presidents and plenary discussions between the delegations of both states, the Montenegrin President expressed his thanks to Slovenia for its support in Montenegro's endeavours to join the Euro-Atlantic associations, to rapidly ratify the Stabilisation and Association Agreement between Montenegro and the European Union, to establish the joint Visa Application Centre at the Slovenian Embassy in Podgorica and for the Slovenian position that Montenegro should be considered individually on its path to the EU.
Klikni za povečavoPresident Vujanović further stressed the good cooperation between the armed forces of both countries and good economic relations, in which both countries are committed to further improving these relations. The presidents exchanged views on regional issues and agreed that it is necessary to make efforts to strengthen cooperation between the friendly countries of the region and to pursue the stability of the whole region.
Klikni za povečavoAt the press conference, Dr Türk emphasised that it is necessary to respect Montenegro's valuable contribution to peace and stability in the Western Balkans and the entire South East European region. As he said, this contribution and the peaceful development when Montenegro became independent enabled great progress, which among other things provided a basis for excellent economic and other relations between Montenegro and Slovenia. Slovenia and Montenegro have developed economic relations, good trade and cooperation in the area of investment. As explained by the President of the Republic, certain new possibilities were defined in today's talks, particularly in connection with the development of the northern part of Montenegro and its tourist potentials, where the possibility exists for the active participation of Slovenian companies. President Türk stressed the importance of Montenegro’s assessment of the situation in the Western Balkans, which is valuable for all other countries in Europe and for the world at large. In this context, he underlined that Slovenia respects Montenegro’s standpoints as regards Kosovo and efforts to stabilise this area.
