Meeting with the Speaker of the House of Commons of the British Parliament

President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk, today in London met the Speaker of the House of Commons of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Mr John Bercow. The two men focused on bilateral relations between the countries and expressed mutual interest in strengthened cooperation between the Slovenian and British legislative branches of power.

They also discussed measures for overcoming the economic and financial crisis and the introduction of necessary structural reforms, from legislative procedure to their implementation. They exchanged views on cooperation between the government and the opposition and on appropriate ways to involve the opposition in adopting political decisions. They also addressed the issues of the geopolitical role and competitiveness of the European Union.

President Dr Danilo Türk took the opportunity to renew the invitation for a visit by the Speaker of the House of Commons of the United Kingdom to the Republic of Slovenia, which Mr John Bercow gladly accepted.
