Ljubljana, 26.1.2008  |  press release

Press Release by the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk, on the occasion of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, 27 January

It is 63 years since the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp. On behalf of the entire international community, the General Assembly of the United Nations designated 27 January as International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Millions of victims suffered from Nazi and fascist violence in concentration camps and this should not, nor will it ever, be forgotten. Slovenes, too, were among the victims. It is with respect that we remember their suffering. And we are bound by this memory to prevent war atrocities from happening again and to insist on human rights being respected.
